CALGARY — Murder suspect Carlos Pelaez denied Wednesday it was anger, not fear which fuelled a deadly attack on his girlfriend.

Under intense cross-examination before a Calgary jury, Crown prosecutor Ron Simenik suggested the Okotoks resident intentionally killed Teresa Enrique April 17, 2012 when she pushed him too far.

“What really happened is you grabbed the knife and you came towards her with the blade up,” Simenik put to the accused murderer.

“No, sir,” Pelaez replied through an interpreter, insisting he tried to hand Enrique a knife handle first to calm her down.

Pelaez earlier said when he did so Enrique pushed the weapon repeatedly into his stomach.
