The Durham Regional Police officer who fatally shot an Ajax man in December will not be charged.

The Special Investigations Unit has concluded “there are no reasonable grounds” to charge the officer — who remains unnamed — with the shooting death of Michael MacIsaac, 47.

MacIsaac had run naked out of his house the morning of Dec. 2, 2013. Police responded to a call for a man “acting in a strange manner” in the Westney Rd. N. and Williamson Dr. area.

“In the final analysis, the subject officer was in the lawful discharge of his duties when he was confronted by Mr. MacIsaac, armed with a metal table leg approximately one metre in length, who was not complying with commands to stop and drop his weapon,” SIU director Tony Loparco said in a release Tuesday evening.
