Calgarians planning a trip into the lower B.C. mainland this weekend are being asked to plan for some major delays after a rockslide closed the Trans-Canada Hwy.
The slide occurred about 1 p.m. Friday about 15 km east of Golden, 260 km northwest of Calgary.
RCMP said the road will remain closed for several hours as the location of the rubble is making the cleanup difficult.
It’s recommended drivers take a detour on Hwy. 93 south, which turns off the Trans-Canada, about 25 km northwest of Banff.
That detour, via Radium Hot Springs north to Golden, will add about 210 km to your trip.
B.C. transportation ministry officials said no one was trapped in this avalanche.
