Suspected drunk driver slams SUV into home
By Tamara Cherry, Sun Media
A suspected drunk driver was arrested today after an off-roading SUV went flying into a townhouse, injuring an elderly woman inside. "I heard, 'Boom!' I go down and I see the kitchen all damaged," recalled Tai Chung, whose mother Thu Tieu, 71, was injured in the incident around 10:45 a.m. "Then I go out, I see the car hit in the wall." The SUV "went flying through the air into the building," after off-roading in a field behind the North York townhouse complex, Toronto Police Const. Tony Vella said. While Tieu, 71, was treated in hospital for minor back injuries, the driver of the SUV was arrested for alleged impaired driving, Vella said. "It's terrible," Chung's brother, Hoa, said next to the SUV. "We are lucky. "In the morning, all my kids and all my brother's kids, sometimes they play around here. This was lucky because they go to school today."
The grey Jeep remained at the scene for hours after the collision, covered in trees that had been knocked down.
