TORONTO -- A mother and her young son knocked down by a TTC bus are expected to be all right.
They were sent flying as they crossed Wilson Ave. yesterday morning when the bus tried to make a left turn off Wilson Heights Blvd.
Toronto Police Sgt. Tim Burrows said the mother and her son, 4, had the go-ahead to cross just before 9 a.m. as the bus was turning on a green light.
"It just comes down to a matter of the bus yielding to the pedestrians once he realized they were there," Burrows told reporters at the scene. "The driver saw the pedestrians but by the time he had recognized them in the roadway where he wanted to be is just beyond the point where he was able to stop the bus in time."
Both mom and son received minor injuries, including bumps to the head along with other bruises and scrapes.
Although pedestrians may have the right of way in a situation they need to remember the "right of weight," Burrows said.
"Until you know that the driver has recognized you and has seen you, maybe sacrifice the right of way for the right to be able to walk the next day properly."
The bus was stopped in the middle of the intersection for about two hours while police investigated.
Burrows said officers will be examining video taken by the TTC vehicle's onboard camera and appealed for any witnesses to contact police.
