Bullied teen's home targeted
Police probe incident against bullied youth who spoke outBy BRIAN GRAY, SUN MEDIA
TORONTO -- Vandals targeted the Mississauga home of a bullied teen, pelting the property with eggs, condoms and other things. "When I woke up my house had been egged, there was yogurt, coloured condoms and watermelon all over the driveway and the cars parked out front," Lindsay Hyde said yesterday. "Pretty much anything messy you can get from the supermarket was sprayed at our house (Sunday) night." Peel Regional Police confirmed they were investigating a incident of mischief at the home located in a southern Mississauga neighbourhood known as Clarkson. Hyde and her mother came forward more than a week ago, complaining about a group of teens who were bullying Lindsay at West Credit Secondary School since classes started in the fall. The bullying started with taunts about the clothing she wore and escalated until she was attacked on a bus in January. During the bus trip. a group of bullying girls threw pens at her, shoved gum down the teen's shirt and opened a condom and wiped it over their victim's face and jacket. Then they shoved her against the bus windows. When Hyde was finally able to get off the bus, one of the girls punched her in the face. The girl who allegedly punched Lindsay in the face told The Sun last weekend that she was just "joking around." The school board reacted by removing Lindsay from West Credit and arranging a work co-op placement for her. The girl, who cannot be identified because she is under 18 and before the courts, said she was envious of the close relationship Lindsay had with her mom. Hyde said she suspects this latest attack is just an attempt to silence her. But she refuses to succumb to her tormenters. Sure this makes me feel more threatened," Lindsay said yesterday. "But I'm not going to shrink away and give in to them."
