CALGARY -- Posting comments about a professor on Facebook has landed a University of Calgary student in hot water.
Keith Pridgen, 19, was placed on 24 months of academic probation in November 2008, which was reduced to six months after he appealed, for writing on the wall of a Facebook group critical of his former instructor in a law and society class.
"I wrote nothing that was threatening and nothing that was, to my knowledge, inaccurate based on conversations with the associate dean," he said.
The group "I no longer fear Hell, I took a course with (the instructor)" was later removed, along with Pridgen's offending comment.
Despite the reduced probation time, Pridgen says he got a raw deal because the instructor allegedly was in a relationship with the program head, who was involved in deliberations for the discipline. University spokesman Grady Semmens declined to comment.
