'God exists' ads to counter atheist message
By KATIE SCHNEIDER
The Calgary Sun

CALGARY -- To counter an atheist campaign currently running on city buses, religious groups are today launching their own ads to spread a message that God does exist.

Sponsored by a group of Calgarians of varying faiths titled God Exists, the $13,000 bus ads are in response to the Freethought Association of Canada's campaign currently running on Calgary Transit that read, "There's probably no God. Now Stop worrying and enjoy your life."

Atthar Mahmood, vice-president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada said the God Exists ads will run on five buses and one C-Train for a month carrying the message "God cares for everyone ... even for those who say He doesn't exist!"

"We decided to do an ad because we are the believers of God," he said.

"We believe God is there and a hope is there--that (athiest) ad absolutely says there is no hope, there is no God."

"We firmly believe God exists and is the creator of all of us."

He said the campaign is also meant to reflect the diversity of people who use Calgary Transit.

"Everyone who rides Calgary Transit came be from any faith, any social background, any nationality," he said. The God Exists group respects the Freethought Association of Canada's right to express its opinion, Mahmood said.

"But we don't have to accept that as right," he said, adding he hopes the God Exists ads will also spark dialogue.

The first bus with the ad will hit the road at 1 p.m.
