Terror convict to be sentenced as adult
By BRETT CLARKSON, SUN MEDIA

BRAMPTON - A youth who was convicted of participating in a terror group known as the Toronto 18 will be sentenced as an adult, a superior court judge ruled this morning.

The young man, who was 17 when he was arrested in June 2006, was found guilty in September of participating in a terrorist organization.

The Crown today argued that the youth, who can't be named, should face three years in jail and three years probation.

Defence lawyer Mitchell Chernovsky is expected to submit his request for sentencing this afternoon.

Mubin Shaikh, the government-paid informant who infiltrated the group, which plotted to hit several high-profile targets including the federal Parliament, was in court today watching the proceedings, as were the young man's parents.
