Mall says parties are safe
By SUN MEDIA
The Edmonton Sun

Despite the drug overdose death of a 14-year-old patron, West Edmonton Mall says it'll press on with its Rock 'n' Ride parties.

Cassie Eyre was taken off life-support Saturday after overdosing on ecstasy she took at the event.

"West Edmonton Mall management and staff send their sympathies to the family of Cassandra (Eyre)," said the mall yesterday in a statement - the first since the death. "Rock 'n' Ride has been and will continue to be committed to ensuring this event is as safe as possible."

The mall caters the events to ages 12 to 17 and they "are intended to be family friendly," said the statement.

The mall said in its statement Rock 'n' Ride is staffed by security, police and uses security cameras.
