TORONTO -- A dad who was crushed under his car in full view of his horrified young son was in critical but stable condition yesterday, police said.
"He's still stable," said Toronto Police Staff-Sgt. Rob Morris.
The 38-year-old Don Mills man was working under his purple Ford Escort Saturday when the jack that had been holding it up gave out.
His son, believed to be 9, was apparently passing tools to his dad as he worked on the car outside the family apartment at 1059 Don Mills Rd., at about 10:20 a.m. Saturday.
The jack toppled and the car landed on the man, forcing the son to cry and scream for help. Emergency crews arrived to see the man's legs sticking out from under the car. Firefighters, emergency workers, and bystanders pitched in and lifted the car up by hand.
Paramedics worked frantically to stabilize the unconscious man at the scene before whisking him away to hospital with life-threatening head and chest injuries.
