CALGARY -- One of the babies found dead in a northeast Calgary home still had a tiny hospital bracelet from its birth in 2005, say sources.
Sources also told the Sun, police found hospital documentation hidden in a plastic bag with the body of the baby, one of three found dead in the Taradale basement suite last week.
Yesterday, major crimes Insp. Guy Slater revealed 27-year-old Harsimrat (Simmi) Kahlon gave birth to a baby at a Calgary hospital late that same year.
"The investigation has confirmed Simmi gave birth to a healthy baby in late 2005," Slater said. "Testing will determine if one of the newborns deceased in the home was the one born in 2005."
Kahlon's death is not suspicious and although police have not revealed how she died, they said there were no apparent signs of struggle in the home or violence on any of the bodies found inside.
They said the deaths of three newborns, however, found wrapped in plastic and hidden in the home, are suspicious.
It is believed the infants were born at different times -- one found with a baby sleeper hidden with the body.
Kahlon, who worked at a law office, was found in the bedroom of the Taracove Estate Dr. suite on Oct. 4 by her common-law husband.
While police await the results of forensic testing to determine how she and the infants died, they are also trying to find out who the babies were, who they were born to and who the father is.
Slater said Kahlon's common-law husband, whom neighbours reported lived at the northeast suite for at least two years and works in trucking, is co-operating with investigators who have spoken to about 30 people and urge anyone with information to come forward.
"He is not a suspect at this time," he said.
Whether he is the father of any of the children or even knew about their existence is also unknown, police said.
"One person who has all the answers is no longer here," Slater said. "Therefore we must rely on science."
