EDMONTON -- An elderly man is in hospital in serious condition after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing at a marked crosswalk Saturday night.

Police say the man, whose exact age wasn't known, was walking near 101 Street and 105A Avenue when he attempted to cross the street.

Two vehicles had stopped for him, police say, but a third kept driving through the crosswalk and hit him.

The man was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police continue to investigate.

Meanwhile, RCMP in Bonnyville have released the name of a 51-year-old man who died after the car he was driving collided with a snowplow on icy roads Saturday morning.

Douglas Allen Anderson, from Iron River, was driving southbound on Highway 41, four kilometres north of Bonnyville around 10 a.m. when he lost control and crashed into a northbound snowplow that doubled as a sanding truck, police say.

He was taken to hospital where he died.

His 19-year-old passenger, identified by police as Tyrell Walter Trottier, was airlifted to hospital in Edmonton in critical condition.

Bonnyville is about 240 km northeast of Edmonton.

Police said yesterday the teen was out of intensive care.

An 18-year-old woman and her three-year-old son were also passengers in the car, but escaped with minor injuries.

They were taken to hospital but later released.

The driver of the plow was not injured but very shaken, police say.

The fatal crash comes on the heels of another deadly collision in northern Alberta.

Last Sunday, Mayerthorpe RCMP were called to Highway 43 west of Highway 765 with reports of a two-vehicle crash, police said in a release issued yesterday.

A driver was trying to pass another vehicle and slammed into an oncoming vehicle, police say.

The vehicle that had been making the pass rolled several times, ejecting the driver and passenger. The driver was taken to hospital with serious head and neck injuries.

Police say the passenger was also taken to the hospital but went into cardiac arrest and died.

Police did not release information on the occupants of the other vehicle. They also did not release the ages or genders of the injured person or the deceased.

Mayerthorpe RCMP continue to investigate.
