Woman assaulted by strangers

WINNIPEG -- For the second time in six days, Winnipeg police have received a report of a woman being sexually attacked after accepting a ride from a stranger.

There's no evidence the incidents are linked.

The latest occurred after two males in a car approached a woman in the first 100-block of Mayfair Place on Sunday at 5 a.m., said Const. Jacqueline Chaput, a police spokeswoman.

"This was definitely a very serious assault committed against this victim," Chaput said.

The incident may have lasted two hours, Chaput said.

Police said the woman was waiting for a cab outside an apartment when she accepted the males' offer and got into the car. The males allegedly drove her to an area where they allegedly beat her and committed a serious sexual assault.

Chaput said the woman told investigators it may have been a park or park-like setting.

The woman was let out in the 1600-block of Corydon Avenue, where she called police from a convenience store at 7 a.m., Chaput said.

She was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

No one has been charged.

Police have released descriptions of both males, who are East Indian in appearance, 20 to 25 years old and clean shaven.

The driver is described as 5-foot-7, 160 pounds with a muscular upper body and short dark hair. He was wearing a white sweater, blue jeans and white shoes, police said.

The passenger is described as 5-foot-5 or 5-foot-6 with a slim build and short dark hair. He was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt over a white shirt, and blue jeans.

Police said the newer model two-door car is silver with a black leather interior, and is similar to a Mercedes-Benz.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.

The other incident happened near Garfield Street and Wellington Avenue last week.

A woman accepted a ride from a male, who tried to sexually assault her before she escaped.
