QUEBEC - A Quebec City toddler was recovering in hospital after falling about 10 metres from a third-storey window Tuesday.

Police say the 18-month-old boy was sitting on a windowsill while playing with his brother when he tumbled onto a patch of grass below. Spokesman Jean-Sebastien Roy said the boy appeared to have climbed up on a bed and was playing by the window when he fell.

"We don't fear for his life," said Roy, adding that all signs point to an accident.

The child was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Both parents were inside the apartment when he fell.
