TORONTO — A Toronto woman has been charged with impaired driving after a vehicle crashed into a McDonald’s restaurant play area early today.

Police say the driver of a minivan put the vehicle in reverse at a McDonald’s parking lot (at Eglinton Avenue and McCowan Road) at around 1:45 a.m.

Investigators allege she lost control of the vehicle and smashed through a glass window and a brick wall, driving into the children’s play area and destroying the ball box and slide.

The restaurant’s 24-hour drive-thru was open at the time but the rest of the eatery was closed. Nobody was injured in the accident.

The 52-year-old driver was arrested at the scene.

City engineers are inspecting the building to make sure it’s in safe condition before the restaurant reopens.
