OTTAWA - An Ottawa man who took off from a minimum-security prison in Kingston Thursday was apprehended at a home in the nation’s capital Saturday night.
OPP Sgt. Kristine Rae says officers had a number of possible locations and residences where 38-year-old Kevin Douglas Rice might have gone, and he was eventually found at one of those.
She wouldn’t say what part of the city Rice was found in, only that Ottawa Police worked together with members of the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Unit in the search, which ended with Rice’s capture around 6:45 p.m.
Rice was recorded as present for the Thursday morning formal count around 8:30 a.m. at Frontenac Institution. He was reported missing later that day.
Sgt. Rae says he may have simply walked off during a work assignment.
She says he was originally incarcerated for robbery and other major crimes. He has been sent to Kingston’s Bath Institution, which has higher security than Frontenac.
