Ontario man arrested for drinking while driving

LONDON -- Police near Windsor arrested a 29-year-old man found driving with open booze on a rural highway.

Lakeshore OPP were called about a drunk driver on County Road 8, south of Hwy. 401 at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday. The driver of the 1994 Concorde turned north on Country Rd. 31 and was going about 30km/h over the posted speed limit.

The driver was weaving from the gravel shoulder on the left to the right side of the road.

When police pulled the vehicle over, they found a six-pack, a 12-pack and a case of beer – all open – as well as two partially-drank bottles of beer between the feet of the passenger in the front seat.

Police arrested a 29-year-old Leamington man. When they were taking off the man’s handcuffs at the OPP detachment, he spun around and grabbed an officer by his collar with both hands.

The man struggled with police, was handcuffed again, and was told he’s being charged with impaired driving, having a blood alcohol level over 80 mgs, and assaulting a police officer.

The man’s 48-year-old passenger, from Lakeshore, was arrested and charged with drinking liquor in a place other than a licensed premises.
