EDMONTON - Police say a baby killed in an Edmonton car wreck was not properly strapped into a child safety seat.
The two-month-old girl, whose name has not yet been released, died in hospital Tuesday from injuries sustained in the Sunday crash.
Just before midnight, the baby suffered life-threatening injuries after the Ford Explorer she was riding in crashed on Yellowhead Trail, at the east end of the Beverly Bridge.
The SUV was heading east when its driver lost control and rolled the vehicle into a ditch, police said.
Two adults, a man and a woman, were uninjured in the crash. The baby was rushed to hospital.
"Preliminary investigations indicate the child had not been properly secured in a child safety seat," said police spokesman Jeff Wuite in a release.
"The file remains under investigation and at this time, no charges have been laid."
Last April, a toddler narrowly escaped tragedy after he fell out of a moving car in Edmonton and was dragged for about six metres. The two-year-old boy was in a car seat that was improperly installed in the back of an SUV, police said. The tot managed to open the door and tumble out.
