Return of Alberta-based soldiers delayed by volcano's ash
By CANDICE WARD, QMI Agency

EDMONTON - Ash debris in the air delayed a group of about 120 Alberta-based troops and officers slated to return from Afghanistan Monday.

The group is now scheduled to return in the early hours Tuesday, six months after deploying to Kandahar as part of Task Force 3-09.

The troops will take part in a media availability upon arrival at Edmonton International Airport.

The Land Force Western Area personnel will be the first of 22 groups slated to return from Afghanistan to Edmonton and Winnipeg.

Pte. Tyler William Todd, 26, the 142nd Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan on April 11 by a roadside bomb while on foot patrol near Kandahar, would have been among the group returning to Edmonton.

He was a member of the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based out of Edmonton but was from Bright, Ont.

Todd’s remains arrived back in Canada Wednesday afternoon in a repatriation ceremony at CFB Trenton.
