Soldier's body found after Ontario house explosion
By Rob Tripp, QMI Agency

NAPANEE, Ont - An autopsy has confirmed remains found in a Napanee house that exploded earlier this week are those of a Canadian soldier who lived at the address.

The body of Patrick Painter, 35, of Napanee, was pulled from the charred debris of a house that exploded and burned on Tuesday.

Police say foul play has been ruled out. An autopsy was conducted Thursday in Ottawa.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation but investigators have said that they believe it was "fuel-related."

Painter's two-storey house in Napanee's east end was rocked by an explosion around 11:30 a.m. and then erupted in flames. The fire destroyed a neighbouring home and damaged another.

The Canadian military had previously confirmed that Painter was based at CFB Kingston, but they would not provide any information about his rank. A neighbour who was at the scene on Tuesday said Painter was gearing up for an upcoming trip to Afghanistan.
