A three-year-old girl died Sunday after she was run over by a van in a church parking lot in Port Hardy, B.C.

RCMP say a woman driving the van was manoeuvring into a parking spot just before 2 p.m. when she ran over the child. Neither speed nor alcohol were considered factors.

A doctor at the scene rushed to help the girl but she had died.

"All indications so far, are that this was a tragic accident, with devastating consequences for those involved. We will continue to support those impacted, as we work towards completing our investigation," Sgt. Phil Lue of the North Island RCMP said in a statement.
