Speeding motorcycle victim identified

A woman was killed on Hwy. 401 late Friday night after falling off a motorcycle near Lake Ridge Rd. in Whitby, Ont. Durham Police was attempting to pull over the bike when the incident happened. (MANNY RODRIGUES, Special to QMI Agency)



TORONTO - The woman who was killed after falling off a speeding motorcycle in Whitby, Ont., on Friday has been identified as Ioana Bocunescu, 40.

Bocunescu was a passenger on the bike when Durham cops attempted to pull it over just east of Toronto. She fell off on westbound Hwy. 401 and was hit by several vehicles on the highway. Nobody stopped to help.

The SIU is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The police watchdog is looking into whether the officer involved committed any criminal offences relating to the chase and consequent death.
