EDMONTON -- The search for a senior who disappeared after visiting friends in Jasper, Alta., continues -- but is challenging since crews have to work in a massive area that stretches over 400 km, say Mounties.

May Milling, 81, was reported missing after she left the town last Wednesday in her blue, 2009 Buick Lucerne as she was heading for Kamloops, B.C.

Police said she never arrived. They don't suspect Milling is a victim of foul play.

Sgt. Patrick Webb, a spokesman for the Alberta RCMP, says a police helicopter was used Sunday to do two sweeps over an area that stretches along Highway 3 in British Columbia.

It's a remote highway with dense forests and mountains, said Webb.

"We're stymied right now," said Webb.

Webb said police have been getting help from volunteers and rangers from Jasper National Park in their search.

Milling, who lives in Gibsons, B.C., usually makes a trip through the Rockies annually, said her roommate.

The senior was last seen saying goodbye to friends at Jober's Cottage, a bed and breakfast she has been visiting for the last 10 years.

Milling was on her way to visit a friend in Kamloops and then planned to head back home to Gibons, say her friends.

The woman is healthy, Webb said.

Milling's four-door sedan has a B.C. licence plate marked 147 LHF.

The senior is roughly 5-foot-7 and weighs about 160 pounds. Police say she was last seen wearing white running shoes and a blue and red windbreaker.
