CALGARY — A 12-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted Monday by a 16-year old boy had met the teen on a social networking site just a week earlier, police said.
The pair and several friends agreed to meet in a Pineridge schoolyard Monday afternoon.
Given the age difference between the two and the fact someone aged 12 can't consent to having sex with someone aged 16, the sexual encounter is deemed sex assault, police said.
Police also said alcohol was a factor
Staff Sgt. Leah Barber said it wasn't a mob attack, but police have yet to interview the preteen to learn more about what happened.
Charges of sexual interference and sex assault are possible but not guaranteed, police said.
