DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. - Bottles poked through the windshield of a car that lost control and slammed into a house in Drummondville, Que., early Wednesday morning.
The young driver is now fighting for his life in hospital.
Firefighters had to pry the 20-year-old driver from his vehicle, after it struck the house at about 2:30 a.m.
Witness said the car was travelling at high speeds in the residential area, squealing its tires, before the driver appeared to lose control. The car crossed a private lane, mowed down a fence and plowed into the house.
The occupants of the house, a mother and daughter, aged 90 and 67, were sleeping in the basement when they were awakened by a thud.
"It hit hard and I was afraid," said Ms. Grenier, 67, who did not give her first name. “It was quite a shock. We had a narrow escape. It could have been worse.”
The force of the impact embedded three bottles of beer in the windshield of the vehicle.
Police say the driver could face charges.
