Cash reward offered in missing teen case
By QMI Agency

Tuesday will mark one year since Toronto teen Mariam Makhniashvili went missing.

The Missing Children Society of Canada is now offering a $10,000 reward for information about the teenager who disappeared after walking to school in her Toronto neighbourhood on Sept. 14, 2009.

"Someone knows what happened to Mariam. We are offering them an opportunity to help this family, and to collect a sizeable reward in return," Dan Picken, MCSC investigator and former police detective, said in a release.

Makhniashvili walked with her younger brother to school, then the two parted ways to go in separate doors. The girl, who was new to Toronto, hasn't been seen or heard from since.

"It has been one year now that our precious daughter disappeared. We still don't know where she is, or if she is alive," Mariam's parents, Vakhtang Makhniahsvili and Lela Tabidze, said in the release. "The pain of not knowing the whereabouts of our child is unbearable."
