KFC's Double Down coming to Canada
By IRENE THOMADIS, QMI Agency

KFC's bunless Double Down sandwich has 1,740 milligrams of sodium.

TORONTO – Canadians love their double-doubles, but will they love the Double Down?

KFC is rolling out its infamous breadless chicken sandwich, in all its gluttonous glory, to Canadians later this month.

"Ever since we launched the Double Down in the U.S., the phones have been ringing off the hook to bring it into Canada," Dan Howe, the fast-food giant's chief marketing officer, said. "People want to know where they can get it. When they found out its not available in Canada they wanted to know why. So we thought we'd bring it here for a limited time."

The sandwich uses two boneless chicken fillets in place of the bun — then squeezes two pieces of bacon, two slices of processed pepper jack cheese and some sauce in between.

"Individually, they're each delicious," Howe said. "But putting them all together is epic. Just delicious."

While low in carbs, this diet-destroying dish has 540 calories, 30 grams of fat and a whopping 1,740 milligrams of sodium.

"We tell people there's so much premium seasoned chicken, we didn't have room for a bun," Howe said.

Depending on the numbers, it could become a permanent menu item here.

More than 10 million Double Downs were sold in the U.S. in less than a month after it launched there last April.

The sandwich will be sold for a limited time in Canada, from Oct. 18 to Nov. 14.
