OTTAWA - As Gatineau police head into their fifth year without a contract, a video critical of the city and the lingering labour dispute is circulating the web.
The video shows vandalized patrol cars, on which the words "4 years without a contract" are scrawled in wax crayons.
"This is one of the only means of expression available to the police since they have no right to strike," police union president Rock Legault told RDI Friday.
The city's police force has been without a contract since December 2006.
The latest vandalism follows several similar incidents and comes six months after about 10 police vehicles were painted with the number "3 1/2." One car also sported derogatory comments about Gatineau mayor Marc Bureau.
During the contract dispute, officers have refused to wear their full police uniforms, instead opting to don camouflage pants in protest.
Legault said the tension between the parties is still very high and continues to mount.
The video comes about a week after someone posted online a cartoon mocking Ottawa police brass' handling of the Stacy Bonds affair.
