Syrian embassy in Ottawa vandalized, protested
By Tony Spears, QMI Agency

Syria protesters target embassies

Red paint stained the Syrian embassy in Ottawa on Saturday after a Syrian neighbourhood was pulverized by relentless shelling.

At least 200 people died in a neighbourhood in Homs as army ordinance blew apart dozens of houses with families inside.

"This embassy is dirty with the blood of civilians killed in Syria," said protester Abdullah al-Haj. "It's a massacre."

He believes the embassy vandalism was wrought by "a few young guys with rage inside them."

What appears to be video of the vandalism was posted to YouTube on Friday.

The grainy footage shows the embassy cloaked in darkness. A woman's voice and what sounds like paint splattering provide the only audio as shadowy figures scuttle about.

The Homs slaughter brought about 40 people back to the embassy for a last-minute protest.

Dead men and children peered from laminated posters above short paragraphs lamenting their deaths.

"Security forces stormed (activist Mohammed Eid Hussain Al Haj Ali) and arrested him. After a few hours, he was found about 500 metres from his home," reads one poster. “He had been slaughtered."

Next to his picture is that of a nine-year-old boy killed by gunfire.

Al-Haj wants the Canadian government to take a more active role in opposing the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

"The whole world is watching," al-Haj said. "And nothing is happening."
