Train strikes, kills two people in Alberta
By QMI Agency

EDMONTON – A man and a woman are dead after they were struck by a train Tuesday night near Tofield, Alta., RCMP said.

Investigators say around 11 p.m. the 65-year-old man and 57-year-old woman were walking along the train tracks outside of Tofield when they were struck by a westbound train.

"Crews were unable to stop in time, and so what we have is a tragic reminder that people need to stay off of the tracks." said CN spokesman Warren Chandler.

No vehicle was found in the area, and it's not known why the couple was on the tracks, said RCMP spokesperson Doris Stapleton.

Their deaths are not considered suspicious.

RCMP continue to investigate.
