Firefighters discovered a body stuffed into the trunk of a car, which was on fire, early Sunday morning in a town north of Montreal, QMI Agency has learned.
The hands and feet were bound, according to information obtained by QMI Agency.
Provincial police, who have taken over the investigation, would only say that a car at an intersection outside a business in Blainville, Que., just north of Montreal, was on fire and a body was found inside.
Provincial police Sgt. Benoit Richard said the body was heavily burned and said it was unclear if it was a man or a woman.
A driver noticed the car around 5 a.m. Sunday and called police. The area where the driver discovered the burning vehicle is wooded and police said the driver who called in the fire is the only known witness.
Richard said information about the owner of the car led police to a business a few km away from the burnt vehicle.
“That could be a place where someone saw (the car’s owner),” he said.
Richard said police will transport the body and the car to Montreal Sunday afternoon for analysis.
Provincial police said organized crime could be involved. However, they added they are considering all theories, including suicide.
