Two injured in plane crash near Montreal
By QMI Agency

Miraculous plane crash on Que. highway

BELOEIL, QUE. - Two men were seriously injured after a small plane crashed onto a Quebec highway west of Montreal on Saturday.

The crash occurred around noon, a few metres from an airport runway. Provincial police said the aircraft crashed almost immediately after take-off.

"The plane hit the ground, flipped, and skidded into the middle of the highway," provincial police Sgt. Ronald McInnis said.

One man was ejected after the plane made impact, and rescuers had to pry the other man from the aircraft.

McInnis said both men were transported to a nearby hospital and their injuries are not life-threatening.

The plane was a Grumman AA1C. It hit a truck as it crashed, but did not cause significant damage to the vehicle.

Denis Tremblay, a witness who saw the crash, said the aircraft's wings flew apart as the plane made impact.

"I'm a photographer," he said. "I've never seen anything like this. I was 200 feet away from the plane ... About five or six cars were on the road with me ... we all stopped and rushed out to the crash site."

Tremblay said it was "miraculous" that no one was killed.
