Que. paramedics, steelworkers reach deals
By QMI Agency

Paramedics in Quebec reached a tentative deal Sunday night over salaries and other key issues.

The 1,600 unionized workers, who are represented by the Quebec Federation of Labour, have been without a contract for about two years.

The deal covers salary increases, work hours, pensions and holidays.

The United Steelworkers (USW) also negotiated a tentative agreement Sunday with Rio Tinto Alcan management in Alma, where aluminum smelter workers have been locked out for six months.

The 780 locked-out workers will review the tentative agreement and hold a ratification vote at a meeting later this week in Alma.

Union representatives will not be commenting on the tentative agreement, pending the membership meeting and ratification vote.
