A five-year-old Yukon girl died after a soccer net tipped over and struck her Wednesday evening.
The little girl, whose name hasn't been released, was playing with other kids at a school soccer field in the town of Watson Lake, Whitehorse radio station CKRW reports. There were adults supervising.
According to preliminary information, the net hit the girl on the back of the head when it fell. The net has reportedly been removed.
The child was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 8 p.m.
Premier Darrell Pasloski issued a statement Thursday expressing his condolences.
"On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I want to express my profound sympathy to the Watson Lake family after the tragic loss of their daughter," Pasloski said. "It is a sad day for Yukon to lose someone so young."
Mounties and the Yukon coroner are investigating.
Watson Lake is about 450 km southeast of Whitehorse.
