B.C. private clinics under fire for illegal billing
By Tyler Orton, QMI Agency
VANCOUVER — Two private medical clinics are in hot water after the government found evidence they were billing patients for publicly insured services.
The Medical Services Commission released results from an audit Wednesday indicating Specialist Referral Clinic Inc. and Cambie Surgeries Corporation were charging people illegally for certain medical procedures.
“The audit, which involved multiple visits to the clinics and a review of hundreds of cases, found clear evidence of extra billing,” MSC chairman Tom Vincent said in a statement.
“Now that we have this information, we are taking the necessary steps to enforce the act.”
If the charging does not cease within 30 days, the commission will seek an injunction against the companies.
