Sources close to Ford say the mayor will be up for anything when he meets the duo, opening the door to the three of them filming a short sketch if time permits.
The two stars are in Hogtown to promote their upcoming movie, The Campaign.
Scripted or unscripted, Ferrell, Galifianakis and Ford could be an interesting comedic match-up.
Ferrell, a Saturday Night Live alumnus and star of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy along with many other films, and Galifianakis, who had starring roles in the The Hangover and Due Date, are both known for their off the wall, no-holds-barred humour.
Ford, meanwhile, is known for his off the wall, no-holds-barred politics.
The Campaign — set to open in theatres Aug. 10 — is a comedy about a long-serving congressman (Ferrell) who suddenly finds himself fighting for his political survival against a rival candidate (Galifianakis).
It’s still unclear where the meeting between Ford and the two stars will take place.
George Christopoulos, Ford’s press secretary, declined comment Sunday.
Aside from meeting with Ford, Galifianakis and Ferrell are scheduled to do a photo-op at the Hockey Hall of Fame before a red carpet event at Scotiabank theatre Monday night. The red carpet event is expected to feature NHL players.
If the comedy flows Monday it won’t be the first time Ford has dabbled in acting.
Earlier this year, he made a surprise cameo in the opening credits of the MuchMusic Video Awards.
In 2011, Ford stepped on the stage with the National Ballet of Canada to play a cannon doll in the company’s production of The Nutcracker and had a bit part in the kids show, Thomas & Friends Live! musical, Thomas Saves the Day.
Although he didn't do it willingly, Ford also appeared on an episode of This Hour Has 22 Minutes when comedian Mary Walsh ambushed the mayor in his Etobicoke driveway. Ford ended up calling 911 in that incident.
He may have always had the acting bug.
During the 2010 election campaign, Ford boasted during an arts debate he was the lead attraction in his grade school production of The Princess and the Pea.
