Three people from Quebec are dead after the driver of a car fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle early Saturday on Interstate 81 in Pennsylvania, local police said.
Pennsylvania police said the car hit an embankment and flew 100 feet before landing against a column of an overpass.
Five people were in the car and the three who weren't wearing seatbelts died in the crash, police said.
The victims were Manon Simard, 57, Danielle Joncas, 54, and Joncas' 17-year-old daughter, Gabrielle Le Roy- Audy.
The driver, Simard's 52-year-old husband Jocelyn Caron, and Joncas' husband Paul le-Roy-Audy, sustained minor injuries and were air-lifted to a hospital in Danville, located 200 km north of Philadelphia.
Caron had a broken foot, while Le Roy-Audy had a broken arm.
Philippe Le Roy-Audy, Gabrielle's sister, said his family was in shock, but was dealing with the tragedy with dignity.
"My father said that what happened is part of life, and he wants to concentrate on the members of his family who are still alive," Philippe said.
