TORONTO - A 19-year-old man has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds after a shooting in the city’s east end.

Police say gunfire erupted just after 1 p.m. Friday at a transit station.

“The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach,” Const. Tony Vella.

The youth’s injuries were initially thought to be life-threatening.

However, the teen, whose name was not released, was rushed to hospital where doctors were able to stabilize him.

The gunman remained on the loose Friday night.

Meanwhile, homicide detectives announced Friday they have upgraded charges against two men who were involved in a deadly dispute in another east-end neighbourhood a few weeks ago.

Hussain Saeed, 20, and Zishan Malik, 20, both of Toronto, were initially charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Nirosan Thillainathan, 22, on July 22.

Both men now face first-degree murder charges.

The accused are scheduled to make their next court appearance Aug. 27.
