SARNIA, ONT. - An Ontario Provincial Police officer was uninjured after his cruiser was demolished by a transport truck on the side of Highway 402 Friday morning.

The cruiser was parked on the shoulder of the southwestern Ontario highway attending to another collision when the empty garbage hauler rammed the cruiser, destroying it. The officer was not in the car at the time.

The transport then sped through a concrete barricade and crashed to the roadway below.

“There is quite a bit of carnage,” Const. John Reurink said.

“I think the stars are aligned in a situation like this."

The driver suffered minor injuries to his hand and was taken to hospital as a precaution. He was initially arrested by police for dangerous driving, but was released unconditionally pending investigation. Charges are pending, Reurink said.
