TORONTO - Councillor Doug Ford says he “chewed” out his daughter for a controversial tweet in which Krista Ford said women who want to avoid being sexually assaulted shouldn’t “dress like a whore.”
In a surprise interview on The Arlene Bynon Show on AM640 Friday, Doug Ford he didn’t approve of Krista’s tweet but he accepts her apology and wants to move on.
“All of our kids have done stupid things in their lives and Krista regrets it. That’s not the way we raised her,” Ford told Bynon. “To be very blunt, we chewed her ass out from one end to the other and she learned a good lesson.”
Krista Ford - Mayor Rob Ford’s niece and a former member of the Lingerie Football League’s Toronto Triumph team - issued an apology Thursday less than 24 hours after she posted the message on her Twitter account.
The tweet ignited a torrent of criticism and led to headlines on U.S. and U,K, news websites.
Doug Ford said his daughter was “very upset” by the reaction to her mistake.
“I said, ‘You know something, honey, if your name is Krista Smith, they wouldn’t have even paid attention to you. But as long as your name is Ford they are going to target you no matter what you do. If you jaywalk across the street you’ll be on the front page of the paper.’”
