TORONTO - A Grade 12 student died Sunday after collapsing during a football game at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Brampton, Ont., on Friday.

Gene Odulio, 17 was a defensive back with the Cardinals football team and was playing in an exhibition game against Brantford when he collapsed.

“There was no major hit. It happened in the fourth quarter and he was rushed to Sunnybrook (Hospital),” said Bruce Campbell, spokesman for the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board.

“We aren’t aware of the cause and it is being treated as accidental. It was a brain injury for sure.”

The school held a memorial gathering Monday morning.
