VANCOUVER - The Canada Border Services Agency have two foreigners in custody after a traffic officer pulled over a vehicle just outside Kamloops on the Coquihalla Highway Tuesday night.

Mounties are saying little about the two individuals, releasing neither their genders nor ages, but one media outlet reported they were Palestinian men.

“There was an investigation issued into their status in Canada in particular to the two non-residents, and whether or not they might have gained entry to Canada illegally,” RCMP Sgt. Duncan Pound said Thursday.

Information on why the vehicle was initially pulled over wasn’t readily available. Two Canadian citizens were also detained, but later released.

No charges have been laid, Pound said.

CBSA spokeswoman Stefanie Wudel said individuals suspected of entering Canada illegally would generally be kept in custody until an Immigration and Refugee Board hearing.
