Prisoner in police crusier dies in crash in Kenora, Ont.

KENORA, Ont. — A 42-year-old woman in custody died while being transported in a provincial police cruiser after a crash with a tractor trailer in this city early Sunday.

Two police officers were taken to hospital and released following the crash at Hwy. 17A and Hwy. 658 at 2 a.m., involving a marked Ontario Provincial Police car.

The driver of the tractor trailer wasn't hurt.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating

The SIU is an arms-length investigative body that looks into police-involved deaths, serious injury or sexual assault allegations.

Kenora is about 200 km east of Winnipeg in northwestern Ontario.
