The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has added more steaks, ground beef and roasts to a growing list of recalled meats that could be contaminated with E. coli.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has added more steaks, ground beef and roasts to a growing list of recalled meats that could be contaminated with E. coli.

New to the recall list are a variety of beef products sold at Real Canadian Superstore/Extra Foods in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Northwest Territories and Yukon; beef sold at Co-op, ValuFoods and Village Mart in Quebec, New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Newfoundland; as well as meat products sold at several other grocery stores across Canada. Meats have best before dates in September and October, the CFIA said in a release Tuesday morning.

Hundreds of products have been recalled to date.

Nine Canadians have become sick, and the CFIA has confirmed four of them are linked to E. coli bacteria that originated from Alberta-based XL Foods.

Inspectors ordered XL Foods in Brooks, Alta., to temporarily cease operations while the plant works to meet regulatory demands.
