Alberta resident dead from West Nile
By Bill Kaufmann, QMI Agency

(QMI Agency files)

CALGARY - Alberta has recorded its first death from West Nile virus since 2007.

Alberta Health Services said Friday in its seasonal wrap-up on the threat that a person died in its South Zone, which includes the communities of Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

When and exactly where that person died remains undisclosed for reasons of patient confidentiality, said the AHS.

That fatality was one of 10 West Nile cases recorded in Alberta in 2012.

Seven of those were in the AHS’s South Zone, while one was reported in the Calgary region.
