VANCOUVER - A Pacific Centre security guard has been fired and two others suspended after a cellphone video captured a disabled man being thrown to the ground in the mall.

In a statement, officials at the downtown Vancouver shopping centre said the wheelchair-bound man was a shoplifting suspect being detained by third-party security company Genesis.

The video shows a guard appearing to threaten the man, dragging him onto the ground, calling him “stupid” and shouting in his face to get on his chest.

The B.C. Justice Ministry and Vancouver police are both investigating. Police have seized the cellphone video and security camera footage.

Genesis president and CEO Camil Dubuc said he was “disturbed and shocked” upon seeing the footage.

“The employee involved has been terminated and the other two have been suspended pending further investigation,” he said.
