BRANTFORD, Ont. - A 29-year-old Hamilton man was killed in a hunting accident on the Six Nations Reserve, Six Nations Police say.

Police were called to an area east of 2907 Third line Rd. at about 8 a.m. Sunday. Initial investigation revealed that a deer hunter had fired one round from the roadway into the bush area and struck a man who was bow hunting, police said.

The victim was about 375 metres off the roadway, police say.

The two hunters were not known to each other and were not hunting together, police say.

Police continue to investigate along with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police Forensic Identifications Branch. Firearms charges are pending against an Ohsweken man.

Police are not releasing the victim’s name until next of kin is notified.

The Six Nations Reserve is located southwest of Hamilton, Ont., between Brantford, Caledonia and Hagersville.
