VANCOUVER - RCMP have found the body of a young filmmaker from Ohio who went missing last July in New Hazelton, B.C., while making a bear documentary.

On Saturday, a search team located what appeared to be a shirt belonging to Warren Andrew Sill, 26, near a waterfall and a pool area that couldn’t be accessed last summer due to high water levels.

Since the water level subsided, swift-water teams were able to search two pool areas.

“Due to the decreased water levels at this time of year, members were able to access the area and located a body,” Const. Lesley Smith said.

New Hazelton RCMP launched a search in July after finding Sill’s abandoned SUV at the entrance of the Whiskey Creek Trail in the Gull Creek area, midway up the B.C. coast.

Sill’s parents told police their son was in the area to make a documentary on the Spirit Bear and last spoke to him July 4.

While the efforts of search and rescue teams throughout the province ended July 20, the local crew continued its training and search efforts in the Gull Creek area.

Sill had told family and friends he’d be exploring for four to five days but when police learned he was not a seasoned outdoors man, they called for assistance from a search and rescue team, along with RCMP police dogs, a local helicopter and volunteers to scour the vast, dense forest.
