By QMI Agency

A Sault Ste. Marie Transit bus left Queen Street East near Barber Boulevard at about 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012. The driver had a medical episode and lost consciousness, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says. Nobody was hurt. The bus was removed on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012.(BRIAN KELLYQMI AGENCY)

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — A city bus driver passed out behind the wheel Thursday night, causing the bus to cross the centre line, drive over two lawns and two driveways, and plow over small trees before coming to a stop in a field.

Police say she had a medical problem that caused her to lose consciousness.

The driver was taken to hospital, but police say she's fine. None of the eight passengers were injured.

Heavy equipment, including a bulldozer, was needed to remove the bus from the field.

The bus's front window was smashed but no other damaged was initially seen.
